Im so over M390 it doesn't have the best edge retention in that range and always overpriced. In any cut test ive done it does about double the edge retention of 14C28N at most. Price is way more then double so id rather have 14C28N. Thanks Lee!

Remette asked for this because another YT channel found sub-par hardness on the Perregrine, but he used a non-standard Leeb hardness tester. He (CBrx) got a 55.8 hrc reading. He could have dispensed with the controversy by sending it to have it checked on an indent tester, but for some reason he refused. That was unfortunate. Could it have been one bad HT, or just bad testing. No way of knowing, unfortunately. Looks like they're generally at 59-60, which is fine but nothing to brag about. Hey Remette, if you want me to check one on MY Leeb tester, shoot me a message. I'll test it and then have it retested on a standard tester.

Remete make great knifes. I love their designs it's nice that they sponsored that test. Also my beloved 14c28n. You can't get better quality-price ratio 😅 Maybe 154cm from kizer but still it's best for edc that you can beat and throw around then easily sharpen and repeat it. 😊

That's not a trustworthy/Integrity sample on the Remette's bc they supplied them. They could have put out bad batches and now they've corrected it. You should test the knives other RUclipsrs have tested with their methods and deemed low.

I'm very impressed with Remette's confidence. That's great. I buy budget knives, mostly. I'd love for them to get their 14C28N to 62. It's got so much toughness, you could afford to lose a little, and improving the edge holding would be great. Aiming the M390 at 61 would sure be nice, but I don't buy many knives with that expensive steel.

I think Cranes announced that the aluminum PL-XTs should be available soon, or might already be by now. I saw that awhile back. Maybe last week I think, or more. They usually get all the latest Reate models first, or limited editions etc, and for really rare or sought after versions, one offs etc, they'll do drawings just to win a chance to buy it first before everyone else. No they don't have regular discount codes like WMK, but their prices are reasonable for normal retail prices, and you get access to exclusive versions, and you can usually get it there first before any other stores get them. Anyway I like the look of aluminum, but it's not my favorite material for a knife by far. It scratches fairly easily, and once it does, that's it, your stuck with the scratch. Can't turn back the clock. You can't strip or etch it and redo the Ano color. At least not easily unless you have experience and access to all the equipment needed. That's one of the reasons I love titanium.. I mean it's so easy to modify or refinish it yourself. The necessary items / materials are readily available, and not super complicated. That's why I can't see paying allot of money for an aluminum handle on a knife you plan to use regularly. For reasonably low priced knives it's not really a big problem, you use it often and you accept that it's going to show some wear. But that's why I just won't use a Malibu. The two I own are just for collection purposes only. And one is a limited edition from Blade West, and I got to pick the serial number. But there's no way I'm going to take the chance of scuffing up either of them. You lose value just like that. I mean resale value. I really like Protech for their Autos, and I own a couple. But I know at least one of them, I think my TR4, the clip got scuffed and scratched just from being carried in my pocket during normal use. Just the exposed part outside my pocket. And I did a fair amount of searching and nobody has aftermarket or spare replacement clips. In fact it seemed like I had a hard time finding any Protech clips for sale from any of the usual places you find clips. Continuing completely off topic, lol, I don't think the Malibu is worth the money for the materials used, it's a wall made button lock, but I don't think it's the best button lock. I have a thing for button locks which is why I got one the first time, and I can say I own many many button locks. In my opinion, one of the best button locks out there, including quality of the materials used and the price to performance ratio, is the Maxace Babylon. God I love that knife. Just done so well, action, ergos, opening methods, layout of everything including the placement of buttons and other openers is just so well designed. For about the same price as a stock Malibu before the scalpers buy them all up and try to get twice as much on eBay, you can get the Babylon. Full titanium and M390 blade which is also bigger too, another plus for me. And you get all the normal stuff that comes with most upper tier Chinese brands, like a nylon zipper pouch and a little Ziploc baggie with spare hardware. Just play with one for a few minutes and you'll get why I think that. I think they were about 2 bills and a quarter new, or maybe it was 2 and a half. Still a way better knife to price ratio than the Protech.. sorry to say to all the US made only knife guys, but the quality Chinese brands are kicking the US made brands ass. I can't think of any US Made brands that can compete with the best China brands. I still own some but don't buy US brand knives anymore. If the brands here would up their game, and start using titanium, Timascus, Zircuti, Mokume etc and similar high end materials and blade steels, and not try to price it like it was made by Gods hand, then I would definitely try some US brands again and give them a chance at competitive prices. Unfortunately I don't see it happening anytime soon. To bring this essay back around to the beginning, lol, Reate is definitely the best Production knife maker in the game. I think Maxace is right there near them, on some of their top tier knives. Then they go all out with materials and big excessive crazy builds, that's why they are so badass. But overall Reate still is the best hands down. Here's the quick cut version: Aluminum is best for planned budget beaters. Not for anything upwards of or around 200 bucks.
